OPERATIONS MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

PURPOSE OF MIRON STUDENT CENTER OPERATIONS MANAGERS:


The Kean University Operations Managers are Paraprofessionals who are employed to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Miron Student Center. The Operations Managers are representatives of the administrative staff during evenings and weekends, and are responsible for the operation of the Miron Student Center, the scheduled activities, and the delivery of its services. Direct responsibilities include: to provide support and coordinate for events in the Student Center and its associated facilities; to explain, interpret, and enforce general building and area policies; to coordinate and observe Miron Student Center staff in the absence of direct area supervisors; and to provide for the safety and security of the Miron Student Center and its patrons.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend biweekly department meetings to develop a knowledge and understanding of future events, and to gain perspective on upcoming workload levels of activity.

  • Check for room condition, cleanliness, and setup prior to scheduled events, reservation times, ensuring proper equipment and general professional appearance of the space. Anticipate patron needs whenever possible.

  • Monitor use of the facility by individuals and groups, and achieve conformance with established policies and procedures.

  • Relay information concerning policy disputes to the appropriate supervisor or manager.

  • Tour the building at least once every hour to ensure that all areas are functioning effectively.

  • Responsible for filling out all required paperwork during his/her duty shift.

  • Frequently visit all operating areas and assess the level of customer service, cleanliness and organization.

  • Provide feedback to staff to promote the positive operation of the Miron Student Center.

  • Monitor and control the student center HVAC, lighting, cleanliness, furnishings, events setups, and public spaces. Actively manage the facility.

  • Observe, act upon, and report unusual occurrences and incidents such as vandalism, theft, illness (including alcohol and drug related problems etc.)

  • Coordinate and observe Miron Student Center staff in the absence of the direct supervisors.

  • Suggest methods of improvement for services in all areas of the Miron Student Center, including changes in procedures, policies and physical facilities.

  • Provide support and be a resource for attendants. Act as an advocate for staff concerns and ideas.

  • Provide for the safety and security of the Miron Student Center and its patrons.

  • Know and understand emergency procedures concerning fire alarms, electrical failures, elevator emergencies, injuries, floods, storms, and other emergency situations. Understand alarm equipment and procedures.

  • Provide leadership in emergency situations for staff and patrons.

  • Act as a resource for emergency personnel, assisting in evacuating the facility, maintaining order, and performing other duties as required.

  • Interpret policies and procedures of the Miron Student Center and Kean University to students, staff, faculty, alumni and guests.

  • Interact with patrons to establish authorized and legal use of the facility. Request unauthorized patrons and groups to vacate the facility; utilizing Campus Police as a back up, if needed.

  • Secure the Miron Student Center and associated facilities at the end of each day, per established procedure.
